God the Father, God the Son
To the Son God says: "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, has anointed You with oil of gladness more than Your companions." -Hebrews 1:8-9
In this passage is one of the most amazing and important statements in all the Bible: Jesus is God! Many people of many religions believe Jesus was just a man, or just a prophet of God, or just a good teacher. They like to quote His teachings, but they don't accept His claims of divinity.
Yet throughout His life and ministry Jesus claimed to be equal with God, to be God. Jesus said, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30) and "for this reason therefore the Jews were seeking to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God"
(John 5:18). Jesus made it very clear with His actions and His teaching that He is God.
Here and this is another astonishing aspect of this verse the Father said to the Son, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever." God the Father, God Himself acknowledged His Son as God, providing us with one of the clearest, most powerful proofs that Jesus is God.
So what does all this mean for us today? It means, among other things, that Jesus promises can be trusted. Jesus is who He said He is, and He can do what He said He can do. You live in confidence today that God is on His throne and that His plans and purposes will be fulfilled. No need to worry or fear anything because God's throne will last forever!
Prayer : Father, thank You that I can have confidence in all of Your promises. Amen.
