Imitating the Father

Be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. -Ephesians 5:1-2

It's been said that imitation is the purest form of flattery. Have you ever seen a small boy trying to walk wearing his father's shoes? Or a young girl dressed in her mother's clothes? Often moments like those are the child's sincere attempt to be like to imitate one whom he or she adores.
In today's passage, Paul commanded us to imitate God. Those who are the people of God are commanded to be holy because the Lord is holy (1 Peter 1:15). God's holy, loving character transforms us as we seek Him. The pinnacle of Christian love is self-giving love of Christ on the cross.
Therefore, the primary way Christians should imitate Jesus today is through their love. When Jesus was asked by a scribe to identify the central teaching of Scripture, Jesus told him the most important commandments were to love God with one's whole being and to love others (Mark 12:28-31).
On the night commandment: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciplines, if you have love for one another (John 13:34-35).
The love of Christ is the what how, and why for reaching world.

Prayer : Dear heavenly Father, I pray that my speech, attitude, and behavior will reflect Your holy character and gracious love. Make me more like Jesus. In Christ's name, Amen.
