Jesus, Our Peace

In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought nearby the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and broken down the middle wall separation. -Ephesians 2:13-14

In the ancient world the hatred that existed between Jews and Gentiles was very real. Human history has been plagued by such racial strife from the beginning, and it remains an issue today.
Education is a good thing, but it has not eliminated racism. Legislation can make laws, but it cannot eradicate racial strife. Even religion cannot stop the animosity that exits between the races. Is there any hope? Can different races worship God together, serve Him together, and love one another? The answer is yes!
In our text for today, Paul reminds us that Jesus is both our Peacemaker and our Peace. Through His blood Jesus brought us near to God and near to one another. Jesus destroyed the walls that separate us in our sinfulness from God and from another: Jesus made us one. All Christians have "One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father" (Ephesians 4:5-6).
So how can we live out that truth? We can ask Jesus to live in our hearts and to fill us with His love and power. It isn't difficult for Jesus to love people of all races and all backgrounds. If we let Him live through us, our lives become a channel through which His loves flows to others. And more of Jesus love will mean more of His peace!

Prayer : Jesus, help me to be a channel of peace to others. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
