Our Faithful Guardian
The Lord is faithful, who will establish you ad guard you from the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, both that you do and will do the things we command you. Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. -2 Thessalonians 3:3-5
According to one account, the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth president, occurred because a guard deserted his post. The man assigned to watch the door of Lincoln's box in Ford's Theatre left for a nearby tavern and we know the rest of tragic story. Abandoned by his protector, Lincoln was the victim of an assassin.
We, too, have an enemy. First Peter 5:8 tell us that our "adversary the devil walks about like roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." But we don't have to face him alone. Our Scripture reading assures us that Jesus will guard us faithfully from the evil one. As our Protector, He will never leave His post.
Is there any characteristic more beautiful in a relationship than faithfulness, than the intense loyalty that says, "I will never abandon you for someone else?" Think about how many times the Bible says God is faithful, faithful to forgive and cleanse us; faithful to keep us from more than we can bear; faithful to keep His promises; even faithful when we fail. And these are but a few of God's commitments to be faithful to you.
Today and always you can stand secure in Jesus faithful protection.
Prayer : Dear Lord, it's so comforting to know that You are guarding me. Your faithfulness to me inspires me to be loyal to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
