Love + Obedience = Fulfillment

"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled....Whoever does and teaches My commandments, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 5:17-19

We tend to look for the quickest way to get things done. We drive in the fast lanes, eat fast food, and complain when our ever-advancing technology is too slow. We want quick fixes and overnight sanctification.
But while our salvation was accomplished in an instant, our sanctification is a lifelong process. There are no shortcuts. Though we may wish it were otherwise, we cannot expedite the process of discipleship that contributes to a fulfilling life. God will have His way.
First, our fulfillment is found in Christ alone, and we do not have freedom to look past or skip over His commands. He is consistent and deliberate in His leadership, and He expects our constant diligence as we follow Him. Also note in the passage above that God fulfills each claim He makes. He dots every i and crosses every t. He is meticulous as He makes good on all of His promises.
We end this week with two points of application. Christ followers are blessed to have a fulfilling, loving relationship with Jesus, which is the basis for our faith. At the same time, we are personally responsible for choosing the fulfillment that comes when we obey God's commands. So serve Him by loving Him passionately and loving others intentionally.

Prayer : Lord, help me to act in ways to bring You glory this weekend and always! May Your name be praised. Amen.
