A FRIEND OF GOD
The scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. James 2:23-24
The lifeblood of friendship is trust. And isn't it remarkable to see how much Abraham trusted God and how much God trusted Abraham? God called Abraham to leave his home in the city of Ur, near the Euphrates River, and travel to Canaan, the promised land. Abraham was required to live by faith each step of the journey, not knowing where he was going. He simply obeyed the Lord's instructions.
In Genesis 18, two angels visited Abraham as they traveled to Sodom to inspect the city's sin. He greeted them and extended to them the best of desert hospitality. He stood by them, waiting to serve them, and the n the scene suddenly shifted to Abraham, still standing and communing with the Lord. Abraham was now a friend of God.
Abraham's greatest would come when God commanded him to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22). At the last moment and very pleased by Abraham's obedience God stopped the sacrifice. Abraham had chosen to believe that the Lord would not let him down. And God didn't.
And the same God who appeared before Abraham that day is One who stands with you now. He will not let you down. If you are willing to submit to God and be obedient, then you can count on receiving His blessings.
Prayer :
Father, in faith and with obedience I will follow the example of Abraham. I will surrender and sacrifice everything to Your will.
Amen
