BUT GOD...
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespass, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and make us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-6
You were..."But God." From Genesis through Revelation , the Scriptures flesh out these pivotal words: "But God."
Adam and Eve were lost forever because of their sin, "But God"...
Noah would have been drowned with the people in the world, "But God"...
Jonah would never have been given a second chance, "But God"...
The same can be said of Peter, who shortly after professing his complete loyalty, denied three times even knowing Christ. "But God"...
In Hebrews 11, God's hall of faith, we find a drunkard, a murderer, aa prostitute, a husband of a prostitute, a man who ran from God, adulterers, liars, and irresponsible father, a womanizer, and a deceiver. A bunch of moral failures but their failures were formative, not fatal. Their failures were not the closing act. "But God!"
Think of the comeback! All hope was lost, but then came the grand slam in the bottom of the ninth when we were down by three runs or the three-point shot at the buzzer in overtime when we were down by two. Far better than a Hail Mary pass caught in the end zone as time expires is the truth that we were dead in our sin, "But God" made us fully alive in Christ.
Prayer :
Lord, bring to mind, my "But God" moments so that I might live a life of gratitude to You.
Amen
