CLOSER THAN A BROTHER
A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than brother. Proverbs 18:24
Are you blessed to have "a friend who sticks than a brother"? Mary and Martha had a brother named Lazarus who did stick with them until he became sick and died. More than likely, he had been the handyman around the house and the one who shouldered many heavy burdens. He probably would have come to their defense in a moment's notice, but he was gone. The hands of death suddenly ended earthly closeness.
But Mary and Martha did have a friend who would come to their aid when their brother couldn't, and He is the same Friend you and I have. Jesus is the Friend who sticks closer than any brother. He will be close in times of grief, and, when we fall, Jesus will lift us up. When Lazarus died, his friend Jesus called him back from death to life. Jesus is the friend who sticks closer than any brother.
God said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). The apostle Paul also shared these glorious words: "Neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39).
Do you desire a friend like this? You already have one in Jesus!

Father, thank You for Jesus, who celebrates the joys but never leaves me alone in the pains of life.
