CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15

The apostle John wrote this epistle to remind believers of confidence building truths rooted in their commitment to Jesus Christ. Actually, more than thirty times in five short chapters, John used the word know: he wanted us to know with absolute certainty that we can have complete confidence in God's promises.
But what about the promise "If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us"? All of us can list unanswered prayers. How many times have we wondered, "Why doesn't God answer my prayers?" First, are we praying according to the will of God? When we do, He hears us and answers our requests.
Second, what sin has crept into our lives? Isaiah the prophet said our transgressions cause God to refuse to hear us (Isaiah 59:2). Third, even if sin isn't the current problem, our misplaced desires can be. Are we simply praying for superficial needs instead of what we truly need spiritually?
We can be entirely confident, however, that God will answer these prayers:

1. That you will become like Jesus (Romans 8:29)
2. For the spiritually lost to be saved (2 Peter 3:8-9)
3. For spiritual growth and moral purity (2 Peter 3:18; 1 Timothy 5:22)

These requests definitely God's will are for our good and His great glory.

Prayer :

Father, help me to pray boldly and always to say as Jesus did, "Not my will, but Yours, be done"

Amen
