FINDING STRENGTH IN THE LORD

He gives power to the weak, and those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Today's reading offers rich encouragement for us during our most wearying and trying times. Wonderfully, God promises us power and strength to fly, run, and walk, but did you see the conditions in this text, one even more explicit than the other?
First, we must acknowledge our need for strength and our inadequacy in the face of life's challenges We are weak and powerless in ourselves. But only when we recognize this reality only when we recognize our need will we go to the One who can provide for those needs.
Second and more explicitly we are to wait for the Lord. In Psalm 40:1, the psalmist told us he "waited patiently for the Lord; And He...heard my cry." Acts 1:4 finds the disciples following the Lord's command to "wait for the Promise of the Father." That promise, which we have received, is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
We truly do experience power and strength through God's Spirit as we learn to wait on the Lord.
Here are a few suggestions to help you in this discipline :

Choose to believe that God is always on time
Pledge not to move until God says, "Go"
The only place to rush is into the Lord's presence

Prayer :

Lord, today I choose to wait on You. Give me endurance, Your peace, and godly anticipation of what You will do in Your perfect timing.

Amen
