HE IS WITH ME

I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with forever the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. John 14:16-18

Jesus spoke these comforting words to the disciples at a dark moment of grief. Jesus had just told Peter that this very Peter would deny even knowing his Lord. Judas had been sent out of the room earlier as a traitor.
Worst of all, Jesus had just told the remaining eleven that He was leaving them. The disciples had depended on Jesus for everything. When they got up in the morning, they probably looked at Jesus and said, "What do we do today? Where do we go?" When a situation did not go as they planned or imagined, they looked to Jesus to handle the situation. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, calmed the storms, and answered the critics. He also calmed His disciples fears with His words and comforted them with His presence.
So when Jesus said He was leaving, the unspoken question hanging in the air was "Who is going to help us now? The disciples were baffled. Who, they wondered, would encourage them and pick them up when they fell? Who would strengthen them when they were weak or lead them when they did not know where to go? The Holy Spirit has been given to every believer so every believer can have everything he or she would have, if Jesus were still on earth.

Prayer :

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit. May I walk with Him today, comforted, guided, and empowered by His presence with me. May I walk with Him just as Your disciples walked with You.

Amen
