SUCH GREAT LOVE

Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. Hebrews 5:8-9

Jesus suffered. In God's great plan for our salvation, the blessed Son of God, our Lord Jesus, suffered. He suffered rejection. He suffered hunger and thirst. He suffered loneliness and abandonment. He suffered pain and torture. And He suffered complete separation from the Father when He became the perfect sacrifice for our sins. The only One who was ever perfectly innocent, totally free of sin, suffered and He suffered for you.
And Jesus didn't have to suffer. He was the Son of God and equal with God.
But Jesus chose to suffer. He willingly humbled Himself, took upon Himself the role of a servant, and became obedient unto death. Jesus suffered because He had come to earth for this very purpose: to bring us salvation.
But Jesus was innocent and sinless, so why does the Bible say He was "perfected"? The writer of Hebrews didn't mean that at one point in time. Jesus has always been perfect; He has always been sufficient. In this context, perfected means that though His suffering, His work on earth was completed. Jesus finished the mission He had been sent to do, and having finished it, He now offers salvation to those who trust in Him.
Humanity's sin brought suffering into the world. Our Savior suffered so that we could be made right with God and one day suffer no more. Yes, the cost of your salvation was high, but the love that God has for you is higher.

Prayer :

Father, thank You for great love. And thank You, Jesus, for suffering on my behalf so that I could be saved.

Amen
