THE SECURITY WE HAVE IN JESUS
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6
Who doesn't need encouragement? The apostle Paul wrote these words from a prison cell to people he loved in Roman province of Philippi. He wanted to given them assurance that God would bring to completion the wonderful work of deliverance that He began that momentous day when they first believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. What a reassuring promise to all of us, though! We are kept by God, through the person of the Holy Spirit, and nothing can separate us from His redemptive love (Romans 8:35-39).
What can you and I do to embrace this assurance? First, we must remember that salvation is ours by grace: "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" (Titus 3:5) . Second, if we are saved by grace, we will be kept by the same grace (1 Peter 1:5). Third, Jesus promised us that no one can "snatch them out of His hand" (John 10:28).
Despite these promises from God, we oftentimes allow our feelings of inadequacy, a sense of guilt, or our ongoing indifference to spiritual things to cause us to doubt the promises God has given to us in His Word.
To counter that doubt today and always, remember that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). So drink in the promises from God and stand strong on His truth. Then you'll discover your confidence being restored.
Prayer :
Father in heaven, help me to keep trusting in You and Your promises. May Your love completely overwhelm any doubts that surface, and may my confidence in You be fueled by my renewed and refocused faith in You.
Amen
