BE ASSURED AND STRENGTHENED

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you; may He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion. May He grant you according to your heart's desire, and fulfill all your purpose. -Psalms 20:1-2,4

During the reign of King David, the people understood the significance of a person being God's anointed one. There was no doubt in their minds that the Lord Himself had set David apart to be their leader. They had not only heard reports of his gallant feats on the battlefield but they knew God had chosen David from among his many brothers. And God's choices were not be ignored!
In this psalm of praise and petition, David called for God to send help and strength from "the sanctuary" and "out of Zion," two places symbolizing God's presence. The people who honored their king prayed to God on behalf of him. They wanted God to uphold, support, and sustain their king.
They wanted God's blessings poured out on David because they knew if God's anointed king succeeded, they would too. In other words, praying for God's blessings on their king would mean His blessings on them as well. We should be sure to pray for leaders God has placed over us.

Prayer :

Dear God, I pray for the leaders of our nation. Give them wisdom and discernment.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen
