HOW TO HANDLE HATRED
"Blessed are you who hunger for now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their fathers did to the prophets."
Luke 6:21-23
Pastor and Nazi war victim Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, "When Christ calls a man, He bids him come and die." This statement is consistent with what Jesus said in Mark 8:35, "Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospels will save it." So we should not be surprised when as we follow the Person who once said, "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you" (John 15:18) we encounter opposition.
The Luke 6 verses above come from the Beatitudes section of Jesus famous Sermon on the Mount. These are some of Christ's promises to the faithful:
If we hunger for God, He will fill us with the Holy Spirit.
If we will mourn over our sins, we will experience the joy of freedom from them.
If we are despised for following Jesus, we should be hope in the promise of heaven.
For every moment of persecution we experience in this life, Jesus promises joy in return.
May the presence of Jesus and our hope of heaven enable us to endure the pain, problems, and the persecution of this life.
Prayer :
Father, give me the courage to embrace the cost whatever it may be of following Jesus.
In His name I pray, Amen.
