HOW WILL WE HANDLE THE PERSECTION?

"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:11-12

Theologian John Stott once said, "Persecution is simply the clash between two irreconcilable value systems." If this is true, then persecution is unavoidable for a follower of Jesus Christ. After all, our value system is diametrically opposed to the value system of this world. That means persecution is not a matter of if, but of when, how, and to what extent.
Throughout church history and it's happening around the world today faithful followers of Jesus have endured unspeakable violence, relentless oppression, and brutal deaths. Because the United States has respected the right of individuals to practice the faith of their choice, American Christians have been insulated from this kind of persecution. But this rare protection could potentially come to an end, and Jesus tells us how to respond properly: with joy and gladness.
Only by having a proper and eternal perspective will we be able to rejoice and be glad when are persecuted for our faith. Jesus said, "Great is your reward in heaven." In other words, persecution may be all we experience in this life; we may receive no reward until we get to heaven. In the meantime, though, we have the presence of Jesus as our reward. Is that enough for us?

Prayer :

Father, please give me contentment in the truth that You are my highest reward for serving You and for being persecuted for my faith in You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
