RECONCILIATION: IT'S IMPORTANT

If you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24

I saw a bumper sticker that read, "Jesus loves you, but everyone else thinks you're a jerk." it's funny and true. Scripture tells us that God loves us all the time, even when we're jerks, and all of us do act like jerks sometimes. That's not how God wants us to live.
Jesus made it clear that if we know someone (to whom we've been a jerk) has something against us, we are to go to that person and try to be reconciled.
Our reconciliation with others is our response to being reconciled to God through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. As Paul wrote, "God has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:18). The good news of the gospel is that we have been reconciled to God; therefore, we can be reconciled to others.
But what does reconciliation with others look like? It's important to remember that Jesus said, "Be reconciled to your brother," not "Reconcile your brother to you." A good way to start moving toward reconciliation is to say these simple words: "I'm sorry. I was wrong. Please forgive me." Don't offer excuses or disclaimers. Just make a simple apology. Doing so will go a long way in jumpstarting the process of reconciliation.

Prayer :

Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die so I could be reconciled to You. Thank You for Your unconditional love and ongoing forgiveness. Give me the discernment and grace to reconcile with those I've wronged.

Amen
