THE BLESSING OF A BETTER WAY

All of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling or reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this; that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-9

Peter was in the upper room when Jesus celebrated His last Passover before His death, when He washed the disciples feet, and when He told them more about His impending death. That meant Peter heard Jesus say, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (John 13:34-35).
On an earlier occasion, Jesus had taught that the most important commandment was to love God and the second   was to love people. Jesus then said, "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets" (Matthew 22:40).
After Jesus resurrection and the launch of the New Testament church, Peter saw how obedience to Jesus commandment to love began to change the world. So when he instructed other believers in Christian principles, Peter be compassionate, tender, courteous, and to treat others kindly even if the kindness would not be reciprocated.
Peter realized there is no greater act of obedience than to love. Consequently, there is no greater blessing than that which results from extending Christ's love to others. Love is a better way to live. In fact, it is a blessed way to live.

Prayer :

Heavenly Father, help me love others as You have loved me. Nothing else is more important today or any other day than to love others.

Amen
