WHERE IS YOUR DWELLING PLACE?
Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. Psalms 91:9-11
For thousands of years, this psalm has offered inspiration, comfort, and promise to warriors in harm's way. First, it is amazing to read the psalmist's ancient descriptions of warfare and compare the specifics to what we see in global war on terror today. Insurgency, snipers, suicide bombers, environmental terrorism they seem to be aptly described by "fowler's snare," "deadly pestilence," "terror of night," "arrow that flies by day," "pestilence that stalks in the darkness," and "plague that destroys at midday." What does God say in Psalm 91 that can calm our fears and help us to face these challenges?
God chose to speak words of encouragement through David, a capable warrior who would have had much to share about God's faithfulness in battle. In fact, David might have wanted to pass these lessons on to others as a wisdom not just for physical battles, but for our spiritual battles as well.
Verse 9 begins with the great truth that the people who make God their dwelling place will be protected and guarded. Hear that as God's promise to you as you read today's Scripture passage.
Prayer :
Father, I praise You for being my faithful Dwelling Place. May I trust You completely and rest securely in You today.
Amen
