AN UNDETECTED NEED

Every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. but he who is called by God. Hebrews 5:1-4

Headlines report still one more effort to make peace in the cauldron of boiling animosity in the modern Middle East. Police officers tell of the call they especially hate: a need to respond domestic violence, where anything can happen. And then there is the heartbreaking suicide rate: on average, one person dies by suicide every forty seconds somewhere in the world.
Alienation between countries, between spouses, and even within ourselves is evident throughout the world. Clearly, each person needs to be reconciled to God and made holy.
What is holiness? It is being exclusively for God.
If we could lay everything our hearts desire before us on a table for analysis, we would realize that our hearts wants lots of contradictory things. In a word, our hearts are not holy. We are living exclusively for one purpose: we aren't living for God alone, the purpose for which we were created.
We who are sinful can't approach a holy God. We cannot enter His presence as we are. We need a priest to go before God on our behalf, and there is no priest as qualified as Jesus Christ.

Prayer :

Father, I am humbled to be reconciled to You through Jesus Christ. Enable me more and more each day to live for You alone, to live a holy life, a life set apart for You.

Amen
