HEAVEN WITHOUT GOD?
The scribe said to Jesus, "Well said, Teacher, You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. Mark 12:32-33
Anna, a woman no older than thirty, listens repeatedly to gospel message. After many weeks of listening to carefully crafted sermons and months of study, she comes to a conclusion. She approaches the church's pastor and explains that, after careful consideration, she has decided that it is to her benefit that she makes a decision about Jesus. Anna has realized that she doesn't want to experience pain throughout eternity, and she wants the peace that many others have experienced as result of their religious experience.
Years go by, during which she marries and later divorces. All alone now and after a long absence, she reenters the church, and that is when she hears Jesus teaching that loving God is the most important commandment. As if she were hit by a lighting bolt, Anna realizes that her religious experience has not been authentic. Brokenhearted, she discovers that she has loved God for His gifts rather than loving the Giver Himself.
Do you love God or His gifts? To help you answer that question, consider these: Could you enjoy heaven's streets of gold and gates of pearl if God weren't there? If you could choose an eternity with your family and friends but without God Himself, would you go?
Prayer :
Father, I know that You first loved me in order that I can respond in love to You.
Please teach me to love You and not just Your many blessings and gifts with all that I am.
Amen.
