ABIDING IN CHRIST

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples." John 15:7-8

Today we will reflect on concepts that are fundamental to abiding in Christ. To abide means "to remain," and it can speak of perseverance. As we abide in God and His words abide in us, our desires really become His desires for us. We know what to ask for for because our abiding in His Word has readied our hearts to both ask for His guidance and hear His voice when He responds.
Abiding is rooted in our devotion. We can't keep God's Word if we don't know His Word. God's Word must abide in us, and we must be devoted to hearing what He says to us through His Word.
Dependence speaks of our relationship with Christ and our acknowledgement that we need Him and His guidance all our days.
When we abide, we make decisions based on hearing from Him after we've asked Him for what we desire. Remember, those desires have resulted from abiding. Our relationship with Him has given us the ability to know Him and and trust His desires for us.
As already mentioned, our desires result from our meditating on the Lord. During such times He gradually changes our hearts, and we start to desire for ourselves what He desires for us. Abiding is not about a relationship that allows us to get whatever we desire; abiding is about a relationship that allows God to have His (far better) way in us.

Prayer :

Heavenly Father, teach me to abide in Your Son and in Your Word. In Jesus Christ name, Amen.
