DIFFICULT WORDS

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.  The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

Jesus had just declared to the Jews and His disciples that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood for eternal life (John 6:54), and the disciples responded with "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?"
(v.60). Thus Jesus was gracious and took the opportunity to teach a lesson about the gospel.
In verse 54, Jesus was not saying that His followers would literally eat His flesh and drink His blood.
But just as our physical body gain life-sustaining nutrients from the food that we eat,our souls gain eternal life from the words that Jesus speaks. The truth of His death, burial, and resurrection serves as the source of soul-sustaining assurance that we have eternal life. If we trust anything other than the broken body of Jesus and His shed blood to pay for our sins, we are probably motivated by works-based effort to be saved.
Some decided that they could no longer follow Jesus and heed His difficult words, so they walked away?" (v.67). Peter's answer revealed his faith in Jesus as he confessed that he had nowhere else to go. Peter had come to believe Jesus and Jesus alone had the words of eternal life.
There comes a point in everyone's life when he or she has to determine whether or not to believe or to walk away from the truth that Jesus proclaimed, the truth presented in Scripture. Commit today to a belief that the Bible is inspired and infallible Word of God.

Prayer :

Father in heaven, give me a heart to walk according to Your Word. Amen
