BE JOYFUL

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Philippians 4:4-5

Perhaps the time has come for Christians to take stock of their attitude towards life. Galatians 5:22 lists the fruit of Spirit. First we find love: the greatest of all. Secondly Paul mentions joy: an equally important sign redemption.

However, we find very little of this Christians joy in everyday life and tend to be somber, reserved, and morbid. This is a sad denial of the life of joy for a Christian.

Many people think we simply have to endure this life so that we can go heaven one day. If, however, we do not practice the art of cheerfulness now, we will not appreciate the joy in heaven.

What the prodigal son in Jesus parable missed most in the joyless country of sin was the joyful feasting in his father's house.

This why we, the redeemed, should become part of God's feast here and now. We do accept that our sins are forgiven, but refuse to express our joy daily. We cautiously and longingly remain on the edge of receiving invincible Christian joy, thus robbing ourselves and others of one of God's greatest gifts of grace.

The Christian's joy is in Christ Jesus founded on an encounter with the Savior. In Christ, God not only came very near to us - no, God came into us. Christ met God's demands and filled our past, present and future with joy. Therefore, our joy should be unceasing and everlasting, because Christ is it's Source.

Prayer :

Jesus, Joy of our lives, Source of all true goodness. We want to rejoice in You here on earth in preparation for heaven.

Amen
