STAND FIRM ON GOD'S TRUTH

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hearth my voice. 38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.  John 18:37-38 When Jesus was standing trail before Pilate, He said, among other things, that He should bear witness unto the truth and that everyone that is of the truth heareth His voice. Pilate replied, "What is the truth?" (John 18:37-38). A careful study of the Bible reveals that there are ten great truths contained in the scripture. The first truth is contained in Isaiah 65:16, which says, "He who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth: and he that swearth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles ar

BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spoke unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses minister, saying Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that I have given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them. Joshua 1:1-6 Many believers are finding it difficult to possess the inheritance Christ earned for them bec

A CANDLE OF HOPE

"I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope." Jeremiah 29:11 A friend was working on a writing assignment that involved a trip to Columbia, South America, to research the underground world of drugs. It was a difficult and frightening experience, and when he came back to the United States to write the story, the darkness seemed to have followed him home. During our prayer time in Sunday worship, his wife would request prayers for him, asking that we hold him in the light of   Jesus, who is the light of the world. One day when he went out to get his mail, he found a candle in his mailbox. It was a turning point in his work; he knew there was a special light all around him - people who cared for him. He found hope to complete an important project.  "I know the plans I have for you, to give you a future with hope." Often God works in unassuming human deeds. Our sense of hope in the future may n

DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE

Jesus looked at them and said, "With mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible."  Matthew 19:26 From our perspective, a lot of things look tough. There is the responsibility of maintaining a long-term commitment to our spouse and children, even on days when they aren't exactly endearing. There is the responsibility of dealing fairly and kindly with our coworkers, even when our boss is being a jerk and our peers are self-absorbed and mean-spirited. And then there is God's expectation that we will put him first in our lives.  Practically impossible, we say. But Jesus said we don't have to do everything by ourselves; in fact, with God's help we can do the inconceivable. With "God all things are possible," Jesus said. He said this in the context of something that was difficult for his disciples to even imagine. A young man had come to him and asked how to get eternal life. This was no ordinary young man, however. He was a young man o

SERVING WHOM?

I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 1 Corinthians 4:3-4 For whom do you live your life? Does the approval of people around you determine the choices you make and the path you follow? It shouldn't. As you set priorities in your life, one of the most important things you must realize is that the only person who has any right to judge you is God. Pleasing Him should be the most important thing in your life.  That really sets you free - because you wouldn't be able to please all the people around you all the time anyway, but if you serve God then those around you should also be pleased with you.  Prayer : Dear Lord, help us to not be offended when people judge us, help us to understand that at the end of the day You have the final say about us. Amen

CHOOSE YOUR PATH

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalms 1:1-2 You have the freedom to choose the direction of your life. You can choose to follow those who try to influence you to live your life outside the realm of obedience to God, those who care nothing about Him or His values.  Or you can choose to obey God's law and spend your time with others who also love Him. It's a better choice to surround yourself with friends who want to know God in a deeper way.  Together you can encourage one another, study His Word, and hold one another accountable in your walk in Him.  Prayer :  Dear Lord, help us to choose our path wisely and help us to allow You to guide us in everything we do. Amen

TRUE FAITH

We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.  Hebrews  3:14 Holding firmly to your faith is the priority here. How does your faith hold up under the stress of unemployment, marriage problems, rebellious children, broken friendships, or health issues? That's where the rubber meets the road. It's easy to have faith when everything is going well. But when trouble comes and sticks around how does your faith hold up?  True faith is constant, it doesn't roll in and out depending on the situation. It stays focused on Christ and holds onto Him tenaciously. Focus your heart on Christ and strive to know Him better and better. Learn to trust Him no matter what.  Prayer : Dear Lord, help us to keep our faith rooted in You, help us to trust You and stand on Your Word. Amen

GIVING BACK

Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you.  Deuteronomy 16:17 Some people are fine with the instructions to worship God, pray to Him, study His Word, but when giving is mentioned, their ears close up. They live by the philosophy, "What's mine is mine and what God gives me is mine." The instruction in this verse was given to the Israelites at the first Passover and the theme is repeated many times throughout Scripture. So, it must be important for us, too. God has blessed us and He expects us to give back to Him a portion of that blessing. Our giving shows that we understand that all we have is a gift from Him and that we care about His Word being spread throughout the world. Giving isn't a suggested priority - it's a commanded priority.  Prayer :  Dear Lord, help us to give back to You, by praying and studying daily.  Amen

WHO'S NUMBER TWO?

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.  Philippians 2:3-4 A Christian youth camp used to give an award every summer to the camper who best lived out the theme Jesus first, others next, self last. They encouraged young people to always put Jesus first in their lives. Knowing Him and obeying Him was to be their number one priority.  The number two priority they encouraged is sometimes a little harder: considering the desires and needs of other people over your own. This is a flashback to Jesus words that real love means laying down your life for a friend. Serving others should truly be important to you.  Prayer :  Dear Lord, help us not to be selfish, help us to think about others and not just our self.  Amen

CHOOSE WELL

How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than sliver. Proverbs 16:16 If you page through many popular magazines you will see that the world puts much importance on money. The more money you have the more successful you are perceived to be. Books and articles are written on how to get more of it and how to spend what you have. The temptation is to make money the number one priority of your life, and all other priorities grow from that one. But there are things that are really so much more important than money. Wisdom and understanding will have a deeper impact on what kind of person you are and that will leave a more lasting legacy with your friends and family.  Prayer :  Dear Lord, help us to understand that wisdom is knowledge and knowledge is power. help us to stay focused on You and not the things of this world. Amen
