SECURE BECAUSE OF THE RESURRECTION

 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 

1 Peter 1:3-5

Peter made several statements in these verses that provide absolute proof that our security is in Jesus and not in ourselves. 

First, Peter wrote that we have "a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." Today, around the world, people give their lives for a cause in which they believe. Jesus said that He was dying for a cause. In doing so, this cause provided us "a living hope." In the Bible, hope means "confident assurance." Jesus claimed He was going to die so that we might have hope, the confident assurance of eternal life. When Jesus did not stay dead, when He arose, He served as living hope that we too will experience eternal life! Because He lives, we can live and we can be certain of that. 

This great news!

Second, the apostle Peter wrote that we have "an inheritance in heaven." Although we might want to leave a financial inheritance to our children, it may or may not be there for them. We may outlive our savings, or a corrupt financial institution could cause some or all of it to disappear. But praise God that our inheritance in Him is absolutely sure. 

Prayer :

Dear God, thank You that my eternal security is not in another human being but in You.
