I KNEW YOU'D COME BACK FOR ME, DADDY!

"Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven  and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." Matthew 24:34-35 When my little girl was five years old. I took her to church with me when I needed to pick up some books. I asked her to sit in the office while I checked on a Bible study class that was having an event at the church. I visited with them for twenty minutes, and then realized I was running late, so I jumped in my car and headed home. My wife had just finished fixing dinner and putting everything on the table. She called for us to come sit down. When we gathered around the table, Cynthia asked, "Where's Taylor?" I gasped. I had left my daughter in my office at church! I ran to my car and drove the couple of miles back to the church. When I got to my office, she was sitting in the same chair still looking at her books. I told her how sorry I was that I had forgotten he...

HOW CAN 2 PLUS 2 PLUS 2 EQUAL 7?

"My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh." Proverbs 4:20-22 A teacher asked our friend's daughter to answer a math question: "If I give you two rabbits and then give you another two rabbits and then give you another two rabbits, how many rabbits would you have?" The young girl thought, counted on her fingers, and replied confidently, "Seven!" The teacher said, "Let's try it again, and listen more carefully. If I give you two rabbits and then give you two more rabbits and then give you two more rabbits would you have?" Without hesitation the little girl again said, "Seven!" Finally, the teacher took out six pennies and said, "I am going to give you two pennies, and then I am going to give you two more pennies and then two more pennies. Now how man...

YOU'RE OUT! YOU DIDN'T STAY IN THE BASELINE!

"The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, and the strength of salvation; the fear of the Lord is His treasure." Isaiah 33:5-6 During one of my first real baseball games, I played second base on the Rancho Village Cobras. The game was tied, and it was our last time at bat. There were two outs, we had a runner on third, and I was at the plate. The pitcher threw the ball, and I hit it into right field. I ran to first and stopped. I thought we had won the game until the umpire said, "The batter is out! He failed to stay within the baseline." I remember our coach arguing, but he didn't change the umpire's mind. He knew the rules, and apparently I hadn't followed the rules. God has defined a baseline for every one of us, His children, in the Bible. In it's pages God gives us knowledge and wisdom for all our lives, truth so we can stand strong ...

BUT HE WAS HERE YESTERDAY

"All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and it's flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you." 1 Peter 1:24-25 I was eight years old and so excited to get to school early one day. My best friend, Kevin, had promised to let me ride the new bike he received for his birthday. When I arrived at school, I waited and waited, but Kevin never came. I was so disappointed that I didn't see my best friend or get to ride his new bike. The next day I got up early and raced to school. Kevin wasn't there. At the end of the day, our teacher told us Kevin had moved to another city and would not be returning to our school. I was crying by the time I got home. I told my mom that Kevin had moved and I would never see him again. My mother opened her Bible and read me the Scripture passages you are reading today. She explained that in life we ar...

TRUE SUCCESS

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." Joshua 1:8 Do you want to succeed in life? Most people do. Most people long to see their efforts bear fruit, whether in academics, sports, business, marriage, family, or the Christian life. Did you know there is a secret success? The secret is rather simple. God says true success comes to the one who meditates on His Word...and obeys it. As we have learned this week, God's Word is alive and powerful. It has the power to change us from the inside out. As we spend time reading God's Word, we start to see life His perspective. We start to walk by faith, not by sight. We start to believe Him for big things because we read that He is a big God who delights in doing the impossible. Maybe you have been struggl...

I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU

"Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory." Psalms 73:23-24 One of the greatest promises in the Bible is God's promise to be present in our lives. In Matthew's gospel, "I am with you always" is Jesus last statement to disciples (28:20). As followers of Jesus, we can find great comfort knowing that He is always present in our lives, through the good times and the bad. We can count Him. Not only is Jesus with us, but He is with us tenderly. He is leading us by the hand, guiding us as a good shepherd does his sheep. He takes us to green pastures and leads us along still waters. He guides us through the dark valleys, so we need not fear, as well as to the blessings of higher ground. Then when in His perfect timing our lives on this earth are complete. He will guide us all they way to heaven! We will be welcomed into glory for one reason: we have received Jesus...
