THE CORNERSTONE OF YOUR FAITH

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 The Christian Faith has many facets. People regard and interpret the teachings of Christ according to their own frame of reference, traditions and personality. Disaster enters your spiritual life when you deny the fact that another person’s viewpoint could be correct, even though it differs from yours. Such a denial is the result of fanaticism and pettiness. The real test of your faith is the amount of love you have towards others, especially those whose beliefs differ radically from yours. Such a faith can only have it’s roots in a way of life that stays so close to Christ that His love starts flowing through you to others. Your love for Christ includes all people who love Him, even though you may not be able to agree with them on an intellectual level about matters such as dogma and church government. Love should be predominant in your spiritual life. This love doesn’t always mean

GOD GOES BEFORE YOU

And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:8 Many people are afraid to fulfill their plans because they fear the unknown which lies ahead. This was especially true of some spiritual giants in the Old Testament. One cannot help but wonder what course humanity would have taken had they been daunted by the challenges that were set before them. However, they moved forward in faith and did their part in executing God’s great plan with humanity. It was of the utmost importance that God’s hand should be stretched out in protection over every person that He sent out in His name. As a result of this, and because of the steadfast faith of the biblical heroes, much has been achieved for the kingdom of God. The most important fact is that they believed in the Lord. His view is perfect and eternal and He will never place you in a situation that will be harmful to you. He will be with you to protect you at all times, and to support a

DEPEND ON GOD

When they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Matthew 10:19-20 We are inclined to read many Scripture passages within a historical context only. We then often have difficulty relating them to ourselves or the circumstances of our lives. In some parts of the world those who follow Jesus are experiencing persecution and adversity that is very real. When living in a Christian society, we find it very hard to think that it is possible to be imprisoned because you are a Christian, to be challenged to defend your faith, and sometimes even your life. Nowadays it is more likely that you will be tested in your daily activities. Your test will come when you have to comfort someone who has experienced a tragic loss, to express words of hope to someone who threatens to commit suicide, or reassure the invalid, who suffers constan

JESUS, YOU LEAD THE WAY

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalms 23:3 Are you perhaps one of those people who is afraid of the future? Fear of what the future holds can sometimes totally paralyze your mind and your spirit. If this is true in your life, it is true because you allow it to be. It is not all the Lord’s will for you to be be robbed of all power and beauty because of the awful presence of fear. His desire is for you to be totally free from debilitating fear. This is only possible if your trust in God exceeds your faith in fear. Accept the glorious fact that God is omniscient and that He presides over the past, the present and the future and that He desires only the very best for your life. This will bring such balance into your everyday life that no amount of fear will be able to upset you. Because God is also omnipresent, you need to realize that He is always with you. Never forget that while you are moving into the future, God is already there

WHEN DARK CLOUDS GATHER

How great is God beyond our understanding! The number of His years is past finding out. Job 36:26 One of the biggest stumbling blocks in spiritual development is having a limiting perception of God. When adversity strikes you do not call upon His wisdom, serenity, omnipotence and power, even though He has placed these qualities at your disposal. Unless you remind yourself constantly of the unlimited resources that God has placed at your disposal, and unless you make regular use of them in times of need and distress, you will discover that your trials and tribulations are always greater than your God. Be determined to grow in your perception of the greatness of God, as well as of all the means of grace that He placed at your disposal through which you can get to know Him more intimately. Then, when the storms of life erupt, which will happen without a doubt, you will have a spiritual reserve, enabling you to keep your footing regardless of how difficult the moment may be. When yo

THE CHRISTIAN’S SELF-IMAGE

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear. Psalms 27:3 Nurturing feelings of inferiority and incompetence can paralyze you spiritually. You know that these negative feelings are contrary to the wishes of the in dwelling Spirit of God for your life, but you feel incompetent to do anything about them. The only antidote for a poor self-image, insecurity and feeling inferior, is a positive attitude towards God. To achieve and maintain religious confidence, you must allow Christ into your life and dedicate yourself to Him completely. Then He will live in you and His power will be expressed through you. Prayer and meditation will strengthen your self-confidence and your faith in God. God works in you through Christ, enabling you to lead a life of faith, trust and victory. The more you cultivate an awareness of the presence and omnipotence of Christ in your life, the stronger your faith and trust in Him will become. Through this, you will conquer your feelings of insecurity an

NOT NOW...LATER!

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” John 13:7 Sometimes confusing things happen in life and we find them so hard to believe that we want to blame God in our ignorance and confusion. From the cradle to the grave, we are engaged in a struggle.  However, what often worsens the situation is the fact that we sometimes do not understand what is happening to us at all. This is what happened to Peter. Peter could not and did not want to understand: “No, You shall never wash my feet.” (John 13:8). He had to realize that he had to share in the cleansing grace of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He also had to learn the lesson of absolute humility. It was necessary to prepare him for the great task that he had to perform.  God can make every misfortune and puzzling situation in your life work out for your benefit. Paul states it strikingly, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest o

UNSHAKABLE TRUST

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction. Romans 12:12 When everything seems to be going wrong, people either collapse under their problems or try to solve them in their own strength. In both cases you have little chance of coming out unharmed. The Lord has promised never to forsake or leave you. The Scriptures tell time and again of how God kept His promises. It is therefore imperative that you trust Him completely. Nevertheless, you must have patience, because you cannot hurry God or prescribe to Him. He has His good time and method. His timing is always perfect. Even if you find it difficult to understand in your present confusion, you must accept that God sees the over-all picture of your life. He is all-knowing and all-seeing. Your faith in Him must be of such a quality that you will unwaveringly trust His promises and abide obediently by His judgement. When dark days and difficulties cross your path, place your burdens in His care and keep on trusting. Seek the guidance of

TRUST IN GOD

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. Psalms 27:3 This trust in God can only be possible if we can also make this foregoing pronouncement: “The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I fear?” (Psalms 27:1). In times like these, where people are fearful about the future it is essential that they have a spiritual foundation on which to base their hope and expectations. Faith in God must be intimate and personal if it is to contribute to hope for the future. The omnipotent Creator God has not surrendered this world to it’s fate, despite the fact the contrary appears to be true. His master plan for humankind will still be carried out. In an ever darkening world, He proclaims, “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). If you put all your trust in Him, you will be able to meet the future with an internal peace and calmness, and t

SAFE IN GOD’S HAND

We are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:39 It is very interesting to study people’s reactions to the circumstances they find themselves in. In most cases, their attitude is determined by what’s going on around them. If the country experiences an economic slump, they immediately feel depressed; crime and unrest paralyze them with fear; personal setbacks create a feeling of hopelessness; sorrow drives them to despair. The end result in many cases is that they simply give up. Suddenly life loses it’s meaning, it’s purpose and it’s joy. The are like people who stumble along in darkness. The one very important fact which we have to cling to in the midst of setbacks, is that Christ, through the Holy Spirit, is always with us and that He is holding us in the hollow of His hand. Indeed He is the One who came to give us life in abundance (see John 10:10). This implies that He wants what is best for you under all circums

UNDER GOD’S PROTECTION

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. Jeremiah 17:7 The whole world is experiencing ominous times. From every corner of the earth comes the news of famines, droughts, financial crises, violence, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and many more destructive happenings. The result is that people are restless, insecure and afraid, They don’t know who to turn to or what to do for protection. In order for you to maintain peace of mind, it is imperative that you place your faith and trust totally in God. He who had promised to be with you till the end of time is there with you in every situation. He will protect you and will safely lead you from the darkness into His marvelous light. If your life is Christ-centered and if you acknowledge Him in everything that you do, He will protect you and lead you safely. Regardless of how hopeless things might seem, never lose your faith in Christ’s ability. Make Him your constant, inseparable companion. While you walk w

GOD REMAINS IN CONTROL

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17 In matters of state, a business undertaking, in the workplace and your private life, there comes a time when it seems as though everything is going wrong. The future seems uncertain and the present leaves much to be desired. Under such circumstances, the temptation arises to look back at the past in nostalgia and to yearn for "the good old days." Regardless of what problems might be upsetting your personal life or the world around you, look back over history. You will discover that nations and individuals have struggled through difficult times that can be compared with what we are experiencing in our times. Disasters, hardships and dangers existed in the past. People were confronted with sorrow and adversity, just as we are today. And yet the world has remained standing. Before giving into despondency, first acknowledge the greatness, glory and constancy of God. He called the world into existen

PLAN WITH GOD

Your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:5 How often have you, or the others that you know and love, experienced the disappointment of unfulfilled dreams, watched them disintegrate and feel your hope collapse like a house of cards? Who experience such a stroke of ill fate, never recover. They are therefore not willing to take upon themselves the risk of another disaster, and thus a tremendous amount of talent lies wasted and unused. There are those who will mock the idea that you need to call in God's help realize plans. These people promote the idea of self sufficiency in everything they undertake and they trust completely in their own ability. That is why, when success has been achieved, they also take all the praise for themselves. It is all very well as long as their plans are successful, but if they fail they experience the destructive results of failure. When you trust completely in God for everything you do, if you want to

MORE THAN A CONQUEROR

Yet in all these things we are more than conquers through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 Things might seem worse to you now than they have done for many years. There might be many reasons to be discouraged. You may be asking yourself, "Is it worth the trouble to slave away like this, without attaining anything? I might as well give up." Remember, you are never defeated until you admit defeat. Unfortunately life is full of people who have accepted defeat as a fact, and whose pessimism has influenced others very negatively. It is so easy to become one of the crowd and become a victim of self pity. There are many inspirational stories about people who, when faced with defeat, eventually managed to gain victory in spite of tremendous odds against them. People who are dispirited by looming defeat would be wise to read these inspirational stories. Before you give up in total despair, first ask yourself the following questions: Whom do I submit myself to in my despair? Will life
